Insulation removal in Lake Havasu City AZ - a clean attic ready for new insulation

Stained, matted or droppings-filled insulation in your attic comes out carefully, so the new layer starts on a clean, sealed ceiling.

Crawl space with white plastic vapor barrier covering the floor and lower walls beneath exposed joists, ducts and pipes.

Does the old insulation in my attic need to come out?

Insulation removal in Lake Havasu City means taking old insulation out of your attic when it's wet, stained, full of droppings or falling apart. That keeps it from dragging down your power bill and the air in your house, and the new layer starts clean.

Most people call after they notice a hot room that won't cool down, a stain on the ceiling, or scratching and a smell near the attic hatch. What we find up there decides the job. The price mostly turns on how big the attic is, what kind of insulation is in it and whether anything unsafe is mixed in. The schedule turns on whether a leak or a wiring problem has to be fixed before attic insulation goes back in. I'll put all of that in a written estimate after I've looked, so you see your own figure before anything comes out.

Why homeowners call us for insulation removal

I learned this trade under a boss who checked every attic I worked in. I still run jobs that way, with the prep done right before anything new goes in.

  • The owner on every estimate

I come out to look at your attic myself, and I work alongside our installers on the job.

  • Working here since 2023

I started this business in Lake Havasu City three years ago so I could keep doing careful, checked work.

  • Fully licensed and insured

We're fully licensed and insured for the home attics, shops and metal buildings we work in.

  • Problems fixed, not buried

If a roof leak or bad wiring shows up, I'd rather send you to the right trade than cover it over.

  • Satisfaction guaranteed

Satisfaction guaranteed, and that starts with the prep work you'll never see once the job is done.

How we handle insulation removal

Before anything comes out, I look for droppings, water stains and old flaky material, because each one changes how we handle the job. So does the kind of insulation that's up there.

  • Loose blown-in fill

Blown-in insulation is loose fill that was blown through a hose, and it usually comes out with a big removal vacuum. That works best in a dry attic with nothing nasty mixed into it.

  • Batts, rolls and board

Batts, rolls and stiff board insulation come out by hand, piece by piece. It's slower work, and we bag each piece before it moves so it doesn't shed through the house.

  • What goes back in

Sealing the gaps and blowing in fresh loose fill usually makes the most sense. Spray foam costs more but seals air as it insulates, so it earns its price when your ductwork runs through the attic.

  • Beyond the attic

Sometimes the trouble reaches under the floor or into the walls. When it does, I'll look at those spaces too and talk through crawl space insulation or wall insulation as the next step.

Questions about insulation removal

How much does attic insulation removal cost in Lake Havasu City?

Attic insulation removal across the US usually costs about $600 to $1,200 per job. Where yours lands depends on the attic's size, the type of insulation and whether anything hazardous is in it, and loose blown-in fill tends toward the low end while rigid board tends toward the top. Those national prices assume dry, good-condition material with no asbestos, so I'll give you your own figure in a written estimate after I've seen the attic.

Can new insulation go over the old insulation in my attic?

Yes, if the old insulation is dry and in good shape, it can usually stay under the new layer. If you're seeing water stains, rodent droppings, mold or big gaps, plan on taking it out, in whole or in part. I'll tell you which once I've been up there.

What should I do if my attic has vermiculite insulation?

Leave it where it is and don't let anyone disturb it. Federal guidance from the EPA is to leave vermiculite undisturbed in the attic or walls and to hire a professional asbestos contractor for any work that would disturb it. It looks like small gray-brown or silver-gold pebbles poured between the joists, and you can compare what you see with the EPA's vermiculite photos without touching it. We don't remove it, and if I spot it, I'll point you to the right kind of contractor.

How do I clean up rodent droppings in my attic insulation?

Not with a vacuum or a broom. Federal guidance from the CDC says vacuuming or sweeping rodent droppings, urine or nests can put tiny droplets carrying viruses into the air. If you've seen droppings, ask any crew how it will handle those areas before work starts, and I'll go over how we'll handle yours at the estimate.

What happens after the old insulation comes out of the attic?

The ceiling gets sealed and any problems get fixed before new insulation goes in. One guide advises sealing the air leaks in the ceiling and fixing any leaks or wiring issues you found, then installing the new insulation. A bare attic is the easiest time for attic air sealing, closing the gaps around openings, the tops of the walls and can lights, which is where that guide says most of your cooled air escapes. Sealing first is how I like to work.

How do I get my attic ready for insulation removal?

Clear out the boxes and anything else stored up there, and make sure the hatch and the path to it are easy to reach. Then jot down any spots where you've seen mold, water damage or pests, so I know where to look first.

Insulation removal in Lake Havasu City

Lake Havasu City issues building permits for drywall work, removing or putting in walls, and electrical rewires. Its list names that work and doesn't name insulation removal, so the list alone doesn't settle whether your job needs one. That's why we check each job with the Lake Havasu City Building Division before we start. When a permit is needed, we file it ourselves, because the city won't issue one until the application names the contractor and gives the contractor's license number and city business license number. We put both on every application. That matters most when removal opens up a wall or turns up wiring that needs fixing.

City trash carts take household waste only, with no remodeling debris, dirt or rock, so the old insulation shouldn't go out in your cart. I'll go over how it leaves your property when I'm out for the estimate. We're based in Lake Havasu City and also work in the cities around it. A lot of the calls we get here start with a hot room or a climbing power bill, and the first thing I check is whether the old insulation is still doing its job.
