Retrofit insulation in Lake Havasu City AZ - attics sealed before they're filled

Hot rooms upstairs and a power bill that keeps climbing? We seal the gaps and add insulation so your house holds its temperature.

An unfinished attic has loose gray insulation across the floor beneath exposed timber rafters.

What is retrofit insulation, and does my house need it?

At Lake Havasu City Spray Foam Insulation, retrofit insulation is how we add insulation to a Lake Havasu City home that's already built. That usually means blown-in insulation, which is loose fill sent through a hose, spread over the attic floor or blown into the wall cavities, so the house holds its temperature and the rooms upstairs stop running hot.

Most people call because the bedroom over the garage won't cool down, a hallway feels drafty or the power bill keeps going up, and older houses usually have only a few inches up there, if anything. The price depends on how many inches you already have, how easy the attic is to get around in, how many gaps need air sealing, which means closing them before insulating, and whether old insulation that's soaked or full of droppings needs insulation removal first. The schedule turns on those same things, plus anything another trade has to fix before we start, like old wiring or a roof leak, and your written estimate lays all of it out for your house.

Why homeowners choose us for retrofit insulation

Since 2023 I've run this business the way my old boss taught me, checking every attic we work in, so you can count on the prep being done right where you can't see it.

  • The owner does your estimate

I come out to quote your job myself and then work alongside our installers, so nothing gets lost between the two.

  • Problems flagged, not buried

If there's a leak, old wiring or soaked insulation, I'll tell you to fix it or call another trade first.

  • Questions are welcome

Ask me anything at the estimate, because I'd rather explain why each step matters than leave you guessing.

  • Fully licensed and insured

We're fully licensed and insured for the work we do in your attic, walls and crawl space.

  • Satisfaction guaranteed

Satisfaction guaranteed, and we check the finished attic the way my old boss checked mine before he'd call it done.

How we do retrofit insulation

The right approach depends on your attic's access, what's already up there and where your ducts run. Most jobs are attic insulation over a sealed floor, and we also offer spray foam insulation.

  • Sealed and topped-up attic

This suits most homes that have some insulation but not enough. A low, tight attic changes how we get material in, so I check access and ask about old wiring before we plan anything. Then we seal the openings in the attic floor and blow loose fill to an even depth all the way out to the edges, with the eave vents kept clear so the attic still breathes.

  • Drill-and-fill walls

This suits older homes with thin or empty exterior walls, where a room never feels right no matter what the thermostat says. You choose whether we drill from the inside or the outside, and I'll talk through what each one means for patching and paint at your house.

  • Removal before new insulation

This suits attics where the old material got wet from a roof leak or is full of droppings, because new insulation on top just hides the problem. We take the old layer out, get the leak or pest problem handled, and start clean.

What happens when you call about retrofit insulation?

We plan each job around what's actually in your attic and walls, so the prep and any repairs get sorted out before a single bag of insulation comes off the truck.

  1. You get in touch

Call (928) 392-1018 or send a message through the form, and we'll set a time for me to come out to your house.

  2. I look it over

I go up into the attic, check the walls or crawl space, and talk through what I find while you ask whatever's on your mind.

  3. Your written estimate

You get a written estimate that spells out the prep, any repairs that should come first and what insulation goes in after.

  4. The work and walkthrough

Our crew does the work with me, cleans up the attic and your rooms, and then I walk through the finished job with you.

Retrofit insulation questions we hear

Do I need to air seal before adding attic insulation?

Yes, with a vented attic the usual guidance is to seal every opening through the attic floor before insulating. That saves energy, cuts fuel bills and helps keep moisture problems out of the attic, so make sure sealing is written into any quote you get.

Can you add insulation to existing walls without tearing them out?

Yes, usually by drill and fill, where insulation is blown into each wall cavity through small holes near the top. It's one of the less invasive ways to insulate a finished wall, and we plug and patch the holes when we're done.

How much does it cost to add insulation to an attic in Lake Havasu City?

Across the US, attic insulation usually costs about $1,700 to $2,500 per job, and that's a national figure, not our price. Your attic's cost comes down to how much is already there, how hard it is to work in and how much sealing or removal comes first. Your own figure comes on the written estimate after I've been up there.

How do I get my attic ready for new insulation?

Start by checking for knob and tube wiring, the old style run on ceramic knobs, and for vermiculite, a pebbly gray-brown fill that may contain asbestos. Insulation shouldn't go in until that wiring is replaced or properly boxed in and the vermiculite is handled, so plan that step first. Clearing out stored boxes helps too, because insulation needs to lie level on the attic floor.

How long does retrofit insulation take in Lake Havasu City?

Most of the time goes into prep, so a roomy attic that only needs a top-up goes much faster than a low one that needs sealing and old material pulled out first. Walls add time for drilling, filling and patching, and I'll tell you how long we expect to be at your house when I give you the estimate.

Is a radiant barrier worth adding to my attic?

It pays off slowly, and faster when leaky ducts run through the attic. In one study's simulations for hot climates, a radiant barrier could pay for itself in 20 to 25 years with leaky attic ducts, and about 38 to 50 years without them, so I look at your ducts before we talk about one.

Retrofit insulation in Lake Havasu City

Lake Havasu City issues building permits for a list of home improvements, and that list names work like drywall, wall removal and electrical rewires but not insulation, so it doesn't settle whether your job needs one. We check each job with the Lake Havasu City Building Division, and when a permit is needed we file it with our license and business license numbers on the application, since the city won't issue one without the contractor's name and license numbers. The city's building permits page also points you to the Arizona Registrar of Contractors and says to hire only licensed contractors, so it's worth looking up anyone you're thinking of hiring, us included. State law does let owners do the work themselves on a home that's only for them to live in and isn't meant for sale or rent.

A lot of older homes in the Southwest have low, shallow roofs, and we see plenty of those tight attics on jobs in Lake Havasu City and the cities around it. They're slow, cramped work, which is a big part of why I'd rather plan your job on site than guess over the phone.
